New York Rangers wins 6-3 against local rivals New York Islanders, crushing Islanders completely - NHL Update
The second game of Tuesday was played at the Madison Square Garden as the home team, New York Rangers, played host to New York Islanders.
The game saw Rangers desperately needing to score points if they wanted to stay in the playoff cut while Islanders were looking to win after a disappointing first half of the season.
The game started off with Rangers dominating the first period during which they scored twice to lead 2-0 at the end.
Islanders managed to score twice at the start of the second period to level the scores. However, Rangers scored three more goals to lead 5-2 at the end of the second period.
Both teams scored a goal apiece in the final period as Rangers won the game by 6-3 in the end.
Marian Gaborik of Rangers was the star of the game as he scored two goals during the game.
Rangers made a strong start to the game which saw them making shots on goal every now and them which resulted them coming across opposing goal every now and then.
Rangers managed to capitalise from the start and scored in the fourth minute through Brandon Prust’s well placed flick shot to get into the lead.
Islanders were able to respond to the attacks with some strong plays of their own. There were quite a few shots on goal made by Islanders but they were unsuccessful in finding the back of the net.
Rangers came across a power-play which saw them scoring once again in the 15th minute through Erik Christensen’s flick shot. The shots continued till the end but no further goals were scored.
The period ended with Rangers leading 2-0 as they made 21 shots on goal during the period while Islanders made 12 shots on goal.
The second period saw Islanders starting high on confidence and they were able to score in the second minute through Matt Moulson to cut the lead to a single goal.
The away side was able to score once again in the fourth minute to level the score. The goal was scored by PA Parenteau from a well placed flick shot.
Rangers managed to get back and came up with a strong offence and defence. They restricted the opposition to almost nothing during the remaining part of the period.
Rangers’ superb offence saw them scoring two goals in succession to get back into the lead. The goals were scored by Ryan Callahan and Marian Gaborik in the 12th and the 16th minute, respectively.
Rangers completed a dominating performance in the period with another goal in the final minute which was scored by Bryan McCabe. The period ended with Rangers leading 5-2.
The final period saw Rangers coming out strong and scoring once again in the 13th minute through Marian Gaborik’s quick fired shot.
Islanders continued to attack and scored a goal in the 16th minute through John Tavares.
The game ended with Rangers winning the game by 6-3 in the end with both teams making 11 goal attempts, each, during the final period.
