New York Red Bulls acquire http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Rost-c14103 a the new Designated Player – Major League Soccer News
New York Red Bulls had shown no interest in taking any Designated Players at the start of the 2011 Major League Soccer season, but the outfit announced the acquisition Bundesliga veteran Frank Rost on Wednesday, contrary to their initial stance.
The goalkeeper landed at New Jersey on a Designated Player contract following the transfer of Canadian http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/DC-United-c38901 earlier last month.
“Frank is a very experienced goalkeeper who will provide a strong presence in between the posts for our club during our quest for a MLS title,” RBNY General Manager Erik Solér announced. “We are thrilled that he has decided to join us in the middle of our
campaign and look forward to his contributions for the remainder of the season.”
The club had been hinting the signing of an international player to the roster, owing to poor defensive performances. Furthermore, De Rosario had been demanding a Designate player contract from 2012, a demand the club were unwilling to listen to.
“Whenever we can get money taken off the cap is good for us, and we’ll move more things around to do what we believe is in the benefit of the team for this season and also for the future. One of them will be in the defensive part of the business.’’
In addition to getting foreign talent to the squad, the RBNY management also signalled the reinforcement of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Defence-c38904 that has been club’s Achilles heel of late.
The Red Bulls have conceded a whopping 10 goals in the latest 4-match away trip that put the defence and goalkeeping in the limelight. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bouna-Coundoul-c7930 were both given chances with the gloves to impress but none could provide a sustained protection
to the net.
Sutton was announced the regular starter for the RBNY this season, while Coundoul manned the same permanent spot last year. Although both custodians served the team zealously and produced results in the early half of the season, the team is yet to witness
their exploits on a consistent basis.
The team has dropped down to 2nd position and would go down even further should they lose their game at The Home Depot Center against CD http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chivas-USA-c38798.
Therefore, Rost fits the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bill-c7610 perfectly in the current scenario. Having extensive experience of Bundesliga, the player will be the ace up the Red Bulls’ sleeves for the rest of the season.
Prior to landing in New Jersey, the goalkeeper played for some of the top names in the German top flight. The likes of Schalke 04, Werder Bremen and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hamburger-SV-c39485 enjoyed his services over a span of 20 years.
The 38-year-old has been capped four times for Die Mannschaft and ironically, his debut was against the US national team in 2002.
