New York.... Shopping/ Sights to see/ best ways to get around?

Hi I am off to New York next week and have never been. I really want to hit the shops and love places like Abercrombie/ Victoria's secret etc. Where would be the best areas to go? Also, is it best to walk everywhere? And are there any must see places, I already plan to go up Empire State Building, Rockefella, etc! Thanks x

I would suggest taking the subway throughout the day and the odd taxi as well.  The sight-seeing buses (hop on/hop off) are not a good source of transportation...they take forever!  Make sure you get to see a play on Broadway.  Oh, and take a bicycle taxi afterwards--very cool!!!

You can use the subway and get off at 59th st- 5th avenue (N train)

from there, you can enjoy the central park and the central park zoo for awhile. Then you can visit the apple store, disney store, rockefeller, abercrombie&fitch, trump tower and many other stores on 5th avenue.

Next, I'd recommend visit Times Square when its dark. The lights and everything, the stores(hershey,m&ms,toys r us,ESPN etc), and then you can either walk or take the subway to 34th st herald square. Macys, Victoria secret, manhattan mall, forever 21, american eagle, aeropostale, basically everything you need for shopping is there.

I'd also recommend visiting south street seaport to get food. Their food court got amazing view of Brooklyn and the brooklyn bridge. You can also take a cruise to enjoy the skyline of manhattan. Oh and, theres also an abercrombie&fitch at south street seaport mall ! have fun.

since you plan on see the empire state and doing some shopping, i suggest you stay in Manhattan. Manhattan have tons of places to go shopping (34th street, soho/ broadway, fifth ave, etc) I suggest you get a Metro Card with an all day pass (unlimited ride for the day). Have fun !

go to 34st (ont he west side) All those stores are there plus much more. Dont go to the manhattan mall. Its under construction and theres like two stores open right now.
