Question:

New York State Secondary Education?

If earn a New York State Certification in Secondary Education from my college, would I be able to teach in other states. I go to school in New York so it would be a New York State Certification but I dont plan on living in New York after college.

  1. You have to check the states that New York has reciporcity with. Not all states have it.  In New York State a teacher must have a masters degree to become permanently certified.  Not all state require that.  Type in an inquiry to google and something should pop up about it.


  2. depending on what state you move to you may have to take their certification exam...the best thing to do is get certified in ny even though you are planning to move because many states offer reciprocity to teachers w/ ny certification...

You don't get certified from college.  To become certified one of the things you need is an education degree from a college.  To become certified you take a few state tests.  So if you don't plan to teach in NY don't take the tests in NY.  Take the tests in whatever state you plan to teach in.  The only thing is most people start to take the tests as a junior in college so when they graduate they can apply for certification.

    btw someone else mentioned reciprocity, all that means is you can teach a year in another state and in that year you have to take all the tests to become certified in that state.
