New York Times releases excerpts from Hank Haney’s Book as Tiger Woods hops on a busy week ahead
The book is slated to be released on March 27, ahead of the coveted Masters and the repercussions from the release are all set to badly affect Tiger Woods’ performance in the first major event of the year.
The excerpts now shed some light on Woods’ alleged racial disliking for some of the player on the tour, as explained by Haney.
He writes, “I have no doubt Tiger felt racial vibes in what he read and heard on and off the course, especially when he was matched up against Phil”.
Haney claims that the celebrated player did not appreciate the coverage some of the players like Mickelson and others received from mainstream newspapers.
Apparently, he was also no comfortable with Mickelson, Vijay Singh, Ian Poulter and Sergio Garcia giving undue attention and importance to the fans and media.
He preferred a more reserved character for high profile players, much on the lines he followed throughout his career.
Haney writes that at one point Woods even had problems regarding why Mickelson received more media attention than him and felt that it was more due to his racial orientation.
Haney has been criticised from all walks of life for his unprofessional behaviour and the way he has decided to go public with intricate details of Woods’ personal life.
Loren, one of the hard-line fans of the former world number one says, “You know what, Hank's breach of his student's privacy is what really bugs me about the excerpt. If Hank had revealed private stuff about any other of his students it would have been just as reprehensible whether I liked the student or not”.
At one point, Haney also claimed that Woods also became obsessed by tough workouts and would go on for long runs in military boots, which later proved disastrous for his Achilles strain.
Haney claims that Woods also floated the idea of joining Navy Seals, a claim which was harshly criticised by Woods’ agent Mark Steinberg.
The book will also contain email and text messages between the two, shedding more light in the secret details of how the duo fell apart and Haney later decided to quit his job as Woods’ swing coach.
Haney and Woods parted ways just after Woods decided to withdraw from the Players Championship in 2010. The details of the falling apart have remained shrouded in mystery as none of them ever revealed the reasons of the breakup.
Woods later hired the services of the swing coach Sean Foley and went through a major shift in his swing.
Woods’ decision to change his swing triggered a whole new debate and many of the former giants of the sports criticised him for the reckless decision.
Bracing all criticism which came from none other than the Golden Bear, Jack Nicklaus himself, Woods continued with his swing change rigours.
He has been winless for consecutive two years and although he went over to win the season-closing Chevron World Challenge, he is still widely considered as winless as the event is not a designated PGA Tour event.
