New York Yankees, Brian Cashman signs three-year $9 million deal – MLB News
The situation of uncertainty has finally ended as according to the official news sources in the club the New York Yankees and the general manager Brian Cashman has reached a new three-year contract with an annual income of about $3 million.
After the end of the 2011 season, a state of vagueness has formed in the Yankees’ camp about the contract, but a few days ago Brian and the Yankees officials had repeatedly confirmed their deal. Only the formal signatures were left to make this deal legally
active. With this deal, Cashman and the Yankees will remain together until 2014.
Cashman was already GM for the Yankees since 1998 and during this span he saw many vicissitudes both in his own and the Yankees’ career. His previous contract was about $2 million for one season, according to sources.
Brian was already operational to group a better team for 2012 and to decide some pending deals with the starting batters. Just a day before, on Monday, Cashman signed a $161 million five-year deal with Carsten Charles Sabathia to hold the left-hander until
2016. He also utilised an option over Robinson Cano, who currently is in Chinese Taipei to lead the MLB All-Star team in a five-game series against a local club.
Cashman has strong control over the team and his natural ability to create a perfect rotation in the Yankees has made him a star manager in New York.
"I have a big seat at the table, but I don't sit at the head of the table," Cashman said during a conference call. "I know my place. I know my job description. I know my responsibilities. And I know my abilities to make recommendations. They carry a lot
of weight. It doesn't necessarily carry the day every day. I respect and understand that."
During his time, the club has won five World Series titles and six American League pennants. The team reached the post-season during his entire 14 years span as GM except in one year. Cashman has also been in front row to introduce a new style of managing
the club. He discussed it with George Steinbrenner, Senior vice president of the club, in 2006 and emphasised over firmer control on the organisational operation.
