New York Yankees, Freddy Garcia reach one-year deal – MLB News
It seems as if the New York Yankees are not ready to let any of their players leave the club and move forward. First, the general manager Brian Cashman signed Carsten Charles Sabathia and now the club has agreed to a one-year deal with the starting pitcher
Freddy Garcia on Thursday, November 24.
Garcia and Cashman signed a deal for the coming 2012 season. The exact amount of the deal has not been announced, but according to sources the amount is expected to be between $4 to 5 million.
Freddy served one full year behind CC Sabathia last year and went 12-8 with a 3.62 ERA. The 35-year-old pitcher had expressed his desire to remain with the Yankees, despite the fact he might have an offer of minimum two-years from other clubs. Different
clubs have been reportedly interested in hiring a right-hand pitcher, who has 12 years experience playing at the big league level.
The Yankees are also in search of another pitcher, who can provide backup to CC Sabathia and Bartolo Colon in the coming season. The club has taken this move because they had received some humiliating defeats this past season, just because of a lack of pitching
depth. Yankees reached the American League Division Series but lost to the Detroit Tigers 3-2 in a five-game series.
Yankees now will have to wait until December 7 for another pitcher, because the Texas Rangers’ free agent C.J. Wilson and Philadelphia Phillies’ free agent Roy Oswalt has been given arbitration offers by their clubs on Wednesday. According to the revised
rules, the players will have to decide about their condition until 11 p.m. on December 7.
However, there is strong speculation in the Yankees camp that the club might not consider both players for a contract as their heavy salary demands could be the obvious reason.
The Yankees still have the option in the shape of Phil Hughes, who will be an easy pick for the club. The Yankees still have a time to reconsider about their demands, as Hughes was not up to mark in the last season as he went 5-5 with an extremely high 5.79
ERA and 1.49 WHIP.
