New York Yankees, Freddy Garcia sign one-year deal – MLB Update
The New York Yankees and 36-year-old pitcher, Freddy Garcia, came to mutual terms on Thursday, November 25, 2011, to sign a one-year deal less than a day after the Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise offered him arbitration.
Garcia’s one-year deal is reported to be worth anywhere between, $4 million and $5 million, which is certainly a huge upgrade from last season where he made a base salary of only, $1.5 million.
Last season, Garcia made over $3 million just in incentives, which could be much more this year with a boost in his base.
Retaining Freddy Garica was one of the compulsions the New York Yankees after the saw a free agent market without the outlook of any positive additions in their club that could quite possibly make any difference in terms of performance and playing.
Garcia had 25 stars in the 2011 season in 26 games with a 12-8 and an ERA of 3.62, which was certainly the reason that the New York Yankees had already agreed on not letting the player go in any case.
The veteran pitcher will now be in his second straight season with the Yankees after two straight with the Chicago White Sox, with whom he won a World Series championship in 2005.
Garcia was also names an All-Star player in two consecutive seasons, 2001 and 2002 along with being names the 2001 Mariners Most Valuable Player (MVP).
With Garcia back on the roster, this does not mean that the New York Yankee will not be looking for more pitching depth, but it gives off the impression that they have the room for more.
Some of the more visible names that the New York Yankees are looking into are C.C. Sabathia, Ivan Nova, A.J. Burnett and Phil Hughes, but it is still unclear which player that have started negotiations with or are planning to hold the talk process in the
upcoming days before the deadline.
Freddy Garcia still has a good number of years left in him, which makes him prime for many teams to consider him once this one-year deal is done and over with.
