New York Yankees 2012 regular season review – Part 10
New York Yankees’ Manager Joe Girardi had said his team will fight back strongly after the New York Yankees took an embarrassing 1-7 loss in Game 2 of the series. Showing great determination and fight abilities, the Yankees did exactly that in the finale
as they cruised to a big 11-5 win against the American League rivals.
In an offensive outburst, the Yankees stacked up a huge total on the board. Angels also had plenty of scoring opportunities but they were unable to match Yankees’ offence on the day.
After the Angels took the early lead, Rau Ibanez leveled up the score with an RBI single to centre in the second inning. Outfielder Curtis Granderson and slugger Alex Rodriguez made valuable contribution to help the Yankees extend their lead to 3-0 lead
in the third inning.
Nick Swisher and Mark Teixeira also made the presence felt. Ibanez belted a two run home run in the seventh inning to ensure the Yankees reach home safely.
"I think everybody in here already knows what we can do," Nick Swisher said. "I think tonight was just an explosion for us at the plate. It was great."
"No one's ever happy when you start off slowly. No one's saying no big deal," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "But you also have to understand the need for some guys to get into their game. Some guys are going hit stride right out of spring training,
hit the ground running. Some guys are going to need some innings or some at-bats."
"I'm not worried about a winning streak. I just want to take the ball every five days," Nova said.
Starting pitcher Ivan Nova continued his superb form on the mound as he allowed four runs in six solid innings to grab his second straight win of the season. Striking out batters regularly, he did not allow the Angels’ batting lineup to settle down. Relief
pitcher Rafael Soriano and David Robertson combined to pitch give up just one run in two innings of relief and the Yankees held on to their lead comfortably.
