New York Yankees 2012 regular season review – Part 13
Minnesota Twins showed excellent fighting skills in Game 3 of a four match series against the New York Yankees after Joe Girardi and his men bounced back strongly in Game 2 to level up the series.
It was a huge win for the Twins who looked completely out of sorts in the previous. Yankees, on the other hand, were unable to take advantage of their home conditions at Yankees Stadium in New York, NY.
Despite putting up a brave fight, the Yankees were unable to cross the winning line, losing the contest 5-6. Starting pitcher Hiroki Kuroda had another poor outing as he allowed ten hits and six runs in just over four innings to take his second loss of the
season. Kuroda struggled to control his fastballs and sliders and the Twins took complete advantage of that. Relief pitchers Clay Rapada, Bone Logan and Rafael Soriano combined to pitch four plus shutout innings but that was not enough to take the Yankees
home.
Twins’ starter Jason Marquis pitched with great control and accuracy as he allowed four runs in five innings, playing a big part in deciding the outcome of the contest.
"To see where she was a month ago is nothing short of amazing," Marquis said. "Lots of players have hardships in their careers. The challenge is to step onto the field and learn to try to separate it -- go out there and play a kid's game."
"It was definitely exciting to play in this type of atmosphere," Marquis said. "Family and friends, you can't put a dollar amount on their support."http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/_/id/5378/joe-mauer"He was up all night," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said in a post game intrview. "He didn't have his good sinker tonight like he had with the Angels."
Nick Swisher singled to centre in the firs inning to keep his side in the contest. Robinson Cano and Derek Jeter hit back to back home runs but their effort also went in vain.
For the Twins Jeremy Carroll, Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau made valuable contributions with the bat, helping their side prevail in a thriller.
