New York Yankees 2012 regular season review – Part 19
With momentum on their side, the Texas Rangers continued the good work in the finale of a three match series against the New York Yankees. Rangers, once again, used their home condition brilliantly at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas to complete a deserving
series victory against their American League rivals.
The pitching rotation continued their domination over the Yankees’ batting lineup, allowing just three runs in hitters friendly conditions. Starting pitcher Scott Feldman showed the stuff he is capable of as he allowed just six hits and two runs in three
plus innings. However, it was relief pitcher Robbie Ross who claimed his fourth straight win of the season after he pitched two plus shutout innings, laying the foundations of an impressive Rangers’ victory.
"I'm totally fine with that as long as I can be here," Ross said. "I'm just enjoying it so far, soaking it all in and trying to remember what's going good right now."
Relief pitcher Neftali Feliz, Mike Adams and Joe Nathan combined to give up just one run in three solid innings and the Rangers held on to their three run lead to wrap up a stunning series win..
For the Yankees, starter Phil Hughes paid the ultimate price for his errors on the mound as he allowed five hits and four runs in just over two innings to take his third loss of the season. Relief pitcher David Phelps was also hit hard in his 2.1 innings
of relief, conceding five hits and three runs.
"We believe he can do it and I know he believes he can do, but right now sometimes the ball runs back a little bit, he leaves the curveball up a little bit. Cutter sometimes isn't getting where he wants it," manager Joe Girardi said of Hughes. "It is frustrating,
but you have to keep working at it."
After the Rangers claimed the early 4-0 lead, Raul Ibanez hit a ground rule double to deep left centre in the fourth to put Yankees on the board. Eric Chavez hit a sacrifice fly to left to reduce the deficit to 2-4 but the night belonged to the Rangers who
scored runs regularly.
