New York Yankees 2012 regular season review – Part 26
After losing the series’ opener 3-4 to the Kansas City Royals, Joe Girardi and his men work looking to turn the tables. New York Yankees dominated the Royals in almost all aspects of the game in Game 2 on May 4.
Ace C.C. Sabathia put up a dominating show at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri as he allowed just two earned runs in eight strong innings. Striking out batters at regular intervals, he showed the stuff he is capable of. Sabathia had a big impact
on the game as he created all sorts of problems for the Royals’ batting lineup. Relief pitcher David Robertson also made his presence felt, pitching the perfect ninth.
"I'm coming back. Write it down in big letters," Rivera said. "I'm not going out like this."
"We lost three in a row. We didn't finish up the homestand the way we wanted. We had to deal with what we had to deal with yesterday. I thought it was important that we bounce back," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "We cashed in four runs with two outs.
It was outstanding."
"I sitting over there during the course of the game, trying to figure out a better left-hander in the game today," Royals manager Ned Yost said. "I couldn't come up with one."
Royals’ starter Bruce Chen had a very forgettable outing. The right hander struggled to execute his game plan on the mound, allowing nine hits and six runs in just over six innings. His inability to control his fastballs and slider gave Yankees the opportunity
to dictate the terms right from the start of the contest. It was Chen’s four straight loss of the season but credit should also be given to the Yankees for converting every possible scoring opportunity.
Mark Teixeira provided his side with a wonderful start as he homered to left in the first inning to put Yankees 2-0 ahead. Royals fought back well to level score 2-2 in the first. Eduardo Nunez and Chris Stewart combined to restore Yankees’ two run lead
and Captain Derek Jeter hit a two run home run to left centre in the seventh inning.
