New York Yankees 2012 regular season – review Part 27
New York Yankees secured a comfortable 6-2 win in Game 2 of the series, thanks to a wonderful and match winning performances CC Sabathia who pitched right effective innings to lead his side to a series levelling win in Game 2 of the series at Kauffman Stadium
in Kansas City Missouri.
There was a lot of pressure on the Royals as their fans were expecting them to fight back to keep the series alive. Showing great determination, fighting spirit and mental toughness, the Royals bounced back from a humiliating win to claim a vital 2-1 series
lead.
Starting pitcher Felipe Paulino played a big part in deciding the outcome of the clash as he gave up just four hits in six scoreless innings. Striking out six batters, he did not let the Yankees’ batting lineup get into any rhythm.
Relief pitcher Jose Mijares, Kelvin Herrera and Tim Collins combined to give up just one run in three innings to help the Royals hold on to their four run lead.
"It was an extremely good game in all facets of the game," the Royals' manager Ned Yost. "It was a good day for us."http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/_/id/28871/felipe-paulino"We're getting back to playing our style of baseball now," Yost said. "We had that little rough patch and we're starting to swing the bats a little better now."http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/_/id/6390/russell-martin"You are going to go through periods," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "The key to keeping your offense consistent for me is not having a bunch of guys struggle at once. Maybe having one or two and having the other guys picking you up. That hasn't necessarily
been true."
Yankees starter Hiroki Kuroda took his fourth loss of the season as he conceded just six hits and three runs in four plus innings. Relief pitcher Cody Eppley also struggled to execute his game plan allowing two runs on one hit in 0.1 inning of relief.
Billy Butler displayed some top quality hitting skills as he drive in vital runs in the first and the fifth to give Royals a valuable 3-0 lead. For the Yankees Russell Martin smacked a solo home run to left in the seventh but his effort was insufficient
to stop the Royals from taking a deserving victory.
