New York Yankees 2012 regular season review – Part 32
New York Yankees had a great time on the field in their three match series against Tampa Bay Rays. Manager Joe Girardi and his men were confident of continuing their incredible winning form in their next series against the Seattle Mariners and that is exactly what the Yankees did in Game at Yankee Stadium in New York, NY.
One again, New York took complete advantage of hitting friendly condition at Yankees’ home ballpark, posting a decent total on the board. Mariners, on the other, were unable to some easy scoring opportunities and eventually paid the price.
"When you're facing an elite pitcher like him, sometimes the first pitch is the best one he's going to throw you," Ibanez said. "Then he gets nasty."
"I was throwing that sinker for the first pitch," Rays’ starter Felix Hernandez said prior to giving details of what caused the homer: "That was in the middle of the plate."
Dustin Ackley provided Mariners with an excellent start as he homered to left in the first inning to put his side on the board. Yankees responded immediately, thanks for Robinson Cano who singled to right in the first inning to level score 1-1. Jesus Montero’s home run to right in the sixth inning restored Mariners one run lead. http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/_/id/6204/robinson-cano"I just think our guys are starting to feel better at the plate," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said in a post game interview.
"They said it takes him a while to get going in spring training," the manager said. "Sometimes you find that with older players."
However, the Yankees kept fight and fighting to stay in the game. Raul Ibanez belted a three run home run to right in the sixth inning to help the Yankees come back from behind for a 4-2 lead. Andruw Jones homered to left centre to wrap up another huge win for his team.
Starting pitcher Hiroki Kuroda displayed some top quality throwing skills as he allowed just six hits and two runs in seven innings to claim his third win of the season. Clay Rapada, Cory Wade, Boone Logan and David Robertson combined to toss up two scoreless innings.
