New York Yankees 2012 regular season review – Part 37
New York Yankees were outclassed by the Baltimore Orioles 2-5 in Game 2 of a two match series. Manager Joe Girardi wanted his team to regroup and fight back in Yankees’ next three match series against the Toronto Blue Jays but that did not turn out to be
the case.
Blue Jays used their home conditions absolutely superbly at Rogers Centre in Toronto, dominating their American League East Division rivals in almost all aspects of the game. Starting pitcher Kyle Drabek showed the stuff he is capable of as he allowed just
three hits and one run in seven sharp innings to claim his third win of the season. Striking out five batters, Drabek ensured the Yankees were on the defensive for most part of the game.
"We just have not hit with runners in scoring position on a consistent basis," manager Joe Girardi said.
"We got in a hole and then it seemed like every hitter was trying to hit a three-run homer with nobody on," Martin said. "That's not how you win ballgames."
"That sinker was really working," New York's Mark Teixeira said. "You don't want to say (Roy) Halladay because Halladay is a special pitcher but I felt like Halladay was out there tonight because (Drabek) just wasn't getting the ball up in the zone at all."
Relief pitchers Luis Perez and Francisco Cordero combined to pitch two scoreless innings to help their side hold on to their substantial seven run lead. Yankees’ starter Hiroki Kuroda was hit hard to take his fifth loss of the season.
Overall, he gave up eight hits and seven runs in just five innings, allowing the Blue Jays to establish complete control over the contest. Relief pitcher Clay Rapada was also unable to stop the flow of runs, giving up one earned run in 1 plus innings.
J.P. Arencibia and Edwin Encarnacion provided their side with an excellent start as they combined to hit back to back home runs in the second and fifth to give Blue Jays a handsome 5-0 lead. Jose Bautista and Kelly Johnson also made their presence felt with
home runs in the fifth and the seventh.
