New York Yankees 2012 regular season review – Part 38
Toronto Blue Jays continued their domination against the New York Yankees in Game 2 of the series as well. Making the most of available opportunities at Rogers Centre in Toronto Ontario, John Farrell and his men outclassed their American League East Division
rivals in finer details of the game earn a rare series sweep against the Yankees.
Blue Jays’ starting pitcher Drew Hutchison displayed some top quality throwing skills to put pressure on the Yankees right from the start of the contest. Allowing just five hits and one run in six innings, he ensured the Blue Jays had complete control of
the situation.
Relief pitchers Jason Frasor, Darren Oliver and Casey Janssen combined to toss up three scoreless innings to help their side complete a deserving series victory. Yankees; starter Phil Hughes also had a decent time on the mound as he allowed seven hits and
two runs in five plus innings but he was unfortunate to end up on the losing side. Hughes took his fifth loss of the season despite striking out batters at regular intervals.
"If the game is speeding up on him mentally, he certainly doesn't show it outwardly," Blue Jays manager John Farrell said. "One of the reasons why we felt, with limited experience even above A-ball, he could handle this environment (was) because of the poise
and composure, and he shows that almost every start. He does a very good job of keeping the game under control."
"The kid's aggressive," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said of Hutchison. "He's got some deception to his fastball. He's got some movement. He's not afraid to throw strikes."
Relief pitcher Cory Wade was also hit hard, giving up two hits and two runs in 1 plus innings. Robinson Cano provided the Yankees with an excellent start as he doubled to deep left centre in the first inning. Blue Jays were determined to turn the tables.
Jose Bautista smacked a two run home run in the third inning to put Blue Jays 2-1 ahead. J.P. Arencibia homered to left in the seventh to deny the Blue Jays any chance of coming back into the contest.
