New York Yankees’ domination continued in Game 2 of the series as well. Joe Girardi and his me, once again, executed their game plan to perfection outclass Oakland Athletics in almost all aspects of the game.
Yankees’ pitching rotation played a key role in another impressive 9-2 win. Starting pitcher CC Sabathia led from the front as he allowed seven hits and two runs in seven sharp innings to make quick work of the A’s batting lineup. Striking out batters at
crucial moments, he kept Oakland on the defensive for most part of the game.
Relief pitchers Cory Wade and Cody Eppley showed nerves of steel under pressure as they combined to pitch two scoreless inning to give Yankees’ a deserving victory. For Oakland, starter Bartolo Colon looked completely out of sorts as he conceded nine hits
and six runs in six innings to take his fifth loss of the season.
"I'm glad I'm seeing some results. Just being real aggressive with my swings and trying to let it go, which I've done my whole career," said Teixeira. "I am who I am. I wouldn't know how to explain what kind of hitter I am. I just go up and try to see the
ball and hit it really hard."
"After the home run he threw more sliders and curves and that made his fastball look even faster coming in," Reddick said. "I'm happy I'm swinging the bat but unfortunately we're not winning games. We have a team full of power and they know we'll turn it
around.”
After the A’s took the early lead, Robinson Cano smacked a solo home run to right in the second inning to put Yankees on the board, levelling up the score 1-1. Captain Derek Jeter singled to centre in the third inning put New York 2-1 ahead.
Slugger Mark Teixeira made a big impact on the game as he homered to right in the fourth to break the tie. Alex Rodriguez hit a sacrifice fly hit a sacrifice fly to right and Teixeira singled to right in the fifth to give Yankees an impassable 6-2 lead.
