New York Yankees 2012 regular season review – Part 49
With momentum on their side, the Los Angeles Angels continued the good work in Game 2 of a three match series against the New York Yankees. Making the most of available opportunities at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, the Angels cruised to a 5-1 victory
to take a decisive 2-0 series lead.
Angels’ pitching rotation played a big part in deciding the outcome of the contest. Starting pitcher Dan Haren had an excellent time on the mound ah he allowed just eight hits and one run in seven solid innings, laying the foundations of an impressive Angels’
victory.
Relief pitchers Scott Downs and Ernesto Frieri showed nerves of steel under pressure as they combined to toss up two scoreless, helping Los Angeles hold on to a slime three run lead.
"What are you going to do, man?" Swisher asked. "I swung the bat super well and didn't have anything to show for it. They've got some track stars out there in center and left. Maybe I need to start hitting it to right. Keeping us to one run is pretty impressive."
"We're on a good roll now, and we've got to ride this as long as we can," Trumbo said.
"When you're not swinging the bat, you're going to look dead," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "We probably looked dead for a month. (Showing) life is just a byproduct of starting to swing the bats."
For the Yankees, starter Andy Pettitte struggled to execute his game plan to perfection as he allowed five runs on nine hits in seven innings to take his second loss of the season. Pettitte made a very strong start to the contest, creating all sorts of problems
for the Angels’ batting lineup but with each passing inning, his pitching intensity dropped and the Angels took complete advantage of that.
Nick Swisher singled to right in the fourth inning to put Yankees on the board. However, apart from him none of the hitter could get the job done. For the Angels, Albert Pujols smacked a two run home run o left in the third inning and Mark Trumbo homered
to centre in the fourth inning.
