New York Yankees 2012 regular season review – Part 6
Another thrilling win in Game 3 of their three match series against the Baltimore Orioles helped the New York Yankees grab their first series win of the season. Credit should also be given to the Orioles for putting up a solid fight but they were once again
unable to find winning ways.
Orioles’ inability to handle their nerves under pressure big time throughout the series and the Yankees took complete advantage of that. Starting pitcher C.C. Sabathia produced another masterful performance as he allowed just eight hits and four runs in
six solid innings to keep Orioles on the defensive.
Striking out eight batters, Yankees’ ace created all sorts of problems for they O’s batting lineup. Relief pitchers Bone Logan and Rafael Soriano also displayed some high quality throwing skills. Soriano pitched the scoreless ninth for his win of the season.
Closer Rafael Soriano pitched the shutout tenth for his second save of the year.
Orioles’ starter Jake Arrieta struggled to execute his game plan to perfection, giving up five hits and four runs in six plus innings. Relief pitcher Kevin Gregg took the loss after he conceded three hits and two earned runs in two innings of relief.
"I thought our guys responded well under some tough circumstances with two extra-inning wins," manager Joe Girardi said.
"I was really excited to get that hit at the end of the game, so excited to come out of here with a sweep," Swisher said.

"We came back and we just kept fighting, fighting, fighting. They had the big hit, and we didn't have the big hit. We had the opportunity to get it, and we didn't
get it."
Outfielder Curtis Granderson provided the Yankees with an excellent start as he smacked a two run home run to right in the first inning. Captain Derek Jeter grounded out to second in the fifth and Granderson singled to left in the seventh to force the game
into the extra inning. Outfielder Nick Swisher broke the tie in the tenth with a monster home run to right.
