New York Yankees' starter Andy Pettitte could retire, again – MLB Update
Reports are coming in the media that the New York Yankees' starting pitcher Andy Pettitte could retire again after coming out of retirement in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
“I don’t have a set time frame, but I’m going to try to make [my decision] as quick as I possibly can, within a month,” said Pettitte. Later he added, “There’s no doubt I still have the desire to compete."
Recently some newspapers have speculated that Yankees' veteran is serious and wants to come up with a plan for his future. After he came out of retirement to play later in the post-season, he hoped that Yankees will go further into World Series but with the recent 4-0 defeat from the Detroit Tigers in American League Championship Series, Pettitte once showing a sign that he might not return in 2013.
“We’ve got a lot of free agents, I have preferences [among them] things of that nature, but I have not talked to Hal Steinbrenner, until I have conversations with Hal about everything, it makes no sense to start pushing who’s important or more important than others. There’s too much pain right now that exists here. I don’t need to start on that process just yet,” general manager Brian Cashman said.
Yankees’ 40-year-old lefty is considered one of the best starters in the league. His experience and style of play has given him this honour in the entire league.
He has given over 16-years service for the Yankees, and has always been regarded with huge praise. He finished this season achieving 2.87 ERA along with 5-4 win-loss, 69 strike-outs and 1.14 WHIP.
Overall his career 3.86 ERA along with 245-142 win-loss, 2320 strike-outs and 1.35 WHIP also makes him one of the finest players in the league.
Pettitte when first resigned, was struggling to catch his real flare. He suffered a setback mid-season with a couple of injuries while when later he came back, he did not pitch well and remained under pressure.
Meanwhile, the next few days are critical, when he will be making an official announcement regarding his potential future commitments.
