New York Yankees’ Alex Rodriguez optimistic ahead of 2013 Spring Training – MLB News

New York Yankees’ regular third baseman Alex Rodriguez is feeling optimistic ahead of 2013 season, reports nypost.com. In the city where he has been treated like a royal celebrity for many years, Rodriguez finally spoke about what will it mean to him to
return to such status.
Rodriguez produced some magical performances in 2009 as helped the Yankees win the World Series title. No one expected the Yankees to win the season after they made an awful start but things continued to get better with each passing game.
Then in the postseason, Rodriguez exploded and the Yankees rode his back to claim the title. The third baseman, however, was unable to live up to the expectations in the past season. Following his inconsistent performances, he was benched in majority of
the postseason games.
“Look, we’ve read this script and seen this movie before, and hopefully it has the same ending [as] ’09,” A-Rod said in an interview. “In ’09, I remember, when I went down, a lot of people counted us out, and we had a pretty tough April. But sometime around
May, the magic started, and it just got better and better.”
“The latest sample, and the most legitimate, is how I played the first four months [of 2012], pre-tearing my hip and breaking my [left] hand,” Rodriguez said. “I thought my pace was at a pace that was solid and definitely a winning player.”
As soon as the season ended, Rodriguez made a shocking revelation, announcing that he could miss half the next season with a hip injury. A-Rod described his injury as a crushing below when he learned the news from his doctors in Vail.
Rodriguez does not feel pain when he moves but he is likely to undergo a surgery in January to ensure he keeps playing in Major League Baseball. He will need the operation to be able to return some time during the 2012 season.
The Yankees earlier made an announcement that Rodriguez could be out for 4 to 6 six months recovering from his hip injury. General Manager Brian Cashman has also offered a one year $12 million contract to former Chicago White Sox’s hitter Kevin Youkilis
in an effort to fill the third base vacancy until Rodriguez returns.
