New York Yankees All-Star Dave Robertson back home to help tornado victims -MLB Update
Dave Robertson was one of the most recognisable players after his breakthrough 2011 Major League Baseball (MLB) regular season came to an end, but now instead of taking a break in the offseason, the New York Yankees relief pitcher has much more to do off
the field in terms of helping out his fellow people back in his hometown of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, United States, who were devastated by a tornado that hit the area back in April of 2011.
Along with his wife, Erin, Robertson travelled back home and took into consideration the monumental damage the tornado had caused to the homes and businesses of people who had been living there at the time of the unfortunate incident.
“I had a great season, though we didn’t quite get where we wanted,” said Robertson. “Off the field, though, we’ve worked harder on that than anything. We’re thankful to the Yankees for giving us this platform to launch our start and help raise money for
all those families in Tuscaloosa.”
He finished last season with a 1.08 ERA in 70 appearances with the New York Yankees.
Robertson had came down in May, a month after the tornado had struck, but now having been over six months, he has noticed much improved than before.
"It looks a lot better down there," Robertson said. "They've cleared a lot of the debris out so there's a lot of open land where houses used to be. There's still a lot that needs to be done down there, but it does look a lot better now that the rebuilding
process has started."
During the season, Robertson vowed that he would donate 100-dollars for every 100 strikeouts, which totalled to be a 10,000-dollars amount at the end, a part of the 200,000-dollars that the High Socks for Hope have managed to raise so far for the victims.
Being able to give back is something Dave Robertson appreciates very much and being able to do it with family and friends by your side, there is certainly no better feeling.
Dave Robertson will certainly be honoured with a number of rewards throughout his MLB career, but helping your own community is certainly priceless.
