New York Yankees’ C.C. Sabathia getting help from Brian Cashman – MLB News
New York Yankees’ pitcher C.C. Sabathia is convinced that New York Yankees has what it takes to win the American League East division title this season. To strengthen their pitching department, the General Manager, Brian Cashman has already taken huge steps towards building a strong pitching lineup.
A few days ago, the Yankees signed a deal with Michael Pineda, who is one of the leading pitching prospects in Major League Baseball right now. Although Pineda is still very new to the Majors, he has the potential to become an ace with the Yankees.
The Yankees has also added former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Hiroki Kuroda to their throwing unit. The 36-year-old will be eligible for performance based bonuses in addition to his $12 million contract.
“I just have to make sure I stay on top of things, watching my diet so I stay strong for the end of the season,” said Sabathia, who was participating in Jeter’s Celebrity Golf Classic at the Avila Golf & Country Club yesterday to support Jeter’s Turn 2 Foundation.
Sabathia said the Yankees have a great chance of winning the AL East division championship with their newly found bench strength. The Yankees gave decent results last season. However, with Michael Pineda and Hiroki Kuroda in their pitching lineup, the team is looking stronger than ever before.
Although Brian Cashman has gotten Sabathia some help by bringing in Pineda and Kuroda, there will be tremendous amount of responsibility on Yankees’ ace shoulders. The left handed pitcher will be looking to stay healthy and fit throughout the 2012 season to help the Yankees make it to the World Series.
“I’m a big guy and I’m always going to have to deal with it, and I’ve been dealing with it my whole career,” Sabathia said. “It’s up to me to get in shape to be able to pitch. He just has to stay focused and pound the strike zone.”
Sabathia further added that the Yankees have made some great moves in the last few weeks and the fans will see some aggressive baseball from them this season.
