New York Yankees’ Captain Derek Jeter showing progress as expected – MLB Update

According to a leading sports website, New York Yankees’ Captain Derek Jeter is getting better with each passing day. The source claimed that he is progressing as expected from a fractured left ankle, although he might not be ready for the 2013 Opening Day.
However, being who he is, Jeter might find a way back into the team. The rehab can affect players’ strengths considerably and Jeter might struggle to do things he would normally do before the Opening Day.
"I mean, I think there's a little bit of a question. But I think he'll find a way. That's who he is," said manager Joe Girardi at Yankee Stadium on Thursday.
"Because of the rehab, you have to get to full strength. Maybe you're not able to start doing the things you normally would in January," Girardi said.
Jeter suffered a severe ankle injury in Yankees’ Game 1 of American League Championship Series against the Detroit Tigers. Without their Captain, the Yankees were eventually swept by the Tigers 0-4.
Reports are that Manager Joe Girardi, General Manager Brian Cashman, David Cone and other Yankees’ executive staff are making huge efforts to assemble care packages for USO to ship to servicemen and women stationed overseas.
"They were everybody's sleeper pick last year. I would think they'd have to be the fa vorite," Cone said. "I think they see a great opportunity — that the AL East is ripe for the picking. And you've got to admire them."
Toronto Blue Jays, who are on the verge of officially acquiring All Star Shortstop Jose Reyes and starter Josh Johnson and Mark Buehrle in a blockbuster trade with Miami, are expected to be one of the strongest teams in the American League East Division
in the next season.
David Cone sees the Blue Jays as the team to beat in the next season. It will be interesting to see if Jeter can find a way to recover from his injury before the start of the regular season to help the Yankees compete in the big bad AL East.
The Yankees will be hoping Jeter gets back to full strength as the Division is very competitive and the team is looking forward to battling it out in the 2013 season.
