New York Yankees’ Carsten Charles Sabathia to reduce weight in 2012 – MLB News
The Carsten Charles Sabathia has reached a deal with New York Yankees to stay in the club for 2016 and did not use his opt-out clause of the contract. However, the Yankees’ fans now look at him in a different view.
Sabathia, who has become the player having the highest annual value in the history of the sport, has to face criticism over being overweight. The big fellow has serious looks over his ever-increasing weight, which according to him was “lax” in recent years.
The left-hander seems to have taken an immediate step on the demands that his fans are making for the last many years.
"It is something I need to do, regardless for me, and be proactive," Sabathia said. "It is what it is for me. I just need to go out and be healthy and try and do what I can to be out there for every start I can for this team. For me, that means losing weight
so that's what I'll do."
The 31-year-old, who has beaten by Philadelphia Phillies’ Cliff Lee’s 24-million-dollar annual salary, has accepted his negligence in the past years. Sabathia admitted the fact that he has put on extra weight in the past years.
“I felt great going into spring training last year,” Sabathia said.”[I] got a little lax during the season, but I feel great. My arm feels great.”
It was reported that Sabathia might use his opt-out clause to become a free agent, but the hurler proved all the rumours wrong with his decision on Monday. After reaching a deal, Sabathia filmed his message for the supporters and uploaded it on a popular
video sharing website.
He started his message with the greetings of Halloween and admitted his pleasure in informing the Yankees’ fans of his final decision about the deal. He said, “we agreed to a contract extension” and that he would be back in action in 2012 for the Yankees.
He specially thanked the family of Steinbrenner for helping him to reach a deal. According to Sabathia, his first decision was to end up with the Yankees and move forward, but it seemed like Steinbrenner has convinced him for the deal. He ended his message
saying that he would be in action in Ballpark next year and said “thank you” to all his fans.
Brian Cashman is now looking for another hurler to add in his pitching depth for the coming year. According to the reports, Cashman has considered, C.J. Wilson, Japanese native Yu Darvish, Phillies’ Roy Oswalt and Mark Buehrle.
