New York Yankees’ Curtis Granderson, Bartolo Colon nominated for Players Choice Awards – MLB News
After the post-season is over and the teams has shown there brilliancy with the bat and the ball, the fans now look forward to see their best players getting crowned with various awards.
The Players Choice Awards are one of the most prestigious awards given by Major League Baseball in both American and National Leagues after the voting of the players.
This year the New York Yankees, Bartolo Colon and Curtis Granderson have been nominated for the Awards, which will be announced on MLB network on November 3 at 8 p.m.
Granderson has been nominated in two categories, the Player of the Year Award and the American League Outstanding Player of the Year Award while his team-mate has been selected for the AL Comeback Player of the Year Award.
"It's amazing," Granderson told the reporters. "You get a chance to go into battle against everybody, day in and day out, for 162 games, and everybody gets to acknowledge who's been the best, who's been the most consistent, who's been the most dominant.”
Granderson was the major player to take the Yankees into the American League East title. He scored 136 runs to lead Major League Baseball while ended second in home-runs (41) and scored 119 RBIs for third position as he earned fourth position with 77 extra-base
hitting. The lefty launched sixteen of his home-runs against the left-handed pitchers and also led the Majors in this category.
Curtis will have to beat Boston Red Sox Adrian Gonzalez and Justin Verlander of the Detroit Tigers to be crowned the title.
The 38-year-old Bartolo Colon, who was ruled out of the Yankees side in the 2010 season, made an excellent comeback and tossed just over 164 innings since 2005, when he earned the AL Cy Young Award.
Colon struggled in Spring Training to secure the spot behind Carsten Charles Sabathia, Phil Hughes and Ivan Nova. The striker was 8-10 with a 4.00 ERA in 26 starts, including a complete three-hit shut-out game against the Oakland Athletics.
"You've got to remember, Bartolo won a Cy Young and has been extremely successful for the last decade in the American League," team-mate Alex Rodriguez said.
This Year’s Players Choice Award winners will receive grant worth a total of $260,000 from Major League Baseball Trust.
