New York Yankees’ Derek Jeter happy to be back with All Stars – MLB Update
According to a leading sports website, New York Yankees’ Captain Derek Jeter is very pleased to be back with All-Stars. Jeter was selected as a shortstop for the Midsummer Classic at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.
Jeter is one of those players who take pride in their performances. Throughout his career, he has helped the Yankees win many memorable encounters. Not only is he determined and devoted but he also has a unique ability to pass on the skills to the youngsters.
Los Angeles Angels' outfielder Mike Trout, who has also made it to the American League All-Star team, spoke about Jeter in an interview, stating that Jeter was his hero while he was growing up and Derek said some nice stuff about Angels' finest hitting prospect.
Jeter said of Trout, “He’s fun to watch, there’s a lot of different ways he can beat you. He beat us on the bases, he’s hitting for a high average, he’s hitting home runs, he’s pretty much done everything.’’
It is the record 13th time Jeter has made it to the American League All-Star and credit should be given to him for producing match winning performances for New York on a regular basis.
Three other Yankees have also been named to the AL team, which include ace C.C. Sabathia, Curtis Granderson and home-run specialist Robinson Cano. Sabathia may have to miss the game due to a severe injury he picked up last week.
Granderson and Cano are having an excellent time on the plate this season and it will be interesting to see if they can help American League avenge their loss in last year's All-Star game.
“How close am I? I always enjoy it. I don’t ever come here and take anything for granted. I don’t try to predict how long I am going to play, I just enjoy each and every game,” Jeter said answering a question.
“It’s fun to be here, last year I was injured and I couldn’t come but I’m happy to be back and I’m looking forward to playing,” Jeter said.
Jeter, who is at the twilight of his career, is still enjoying every minute of his time with the Yankees and it will be great disappointment for the fans if he calls it a career next year.
