New York Yankees’ Derek Jeter looks forward to early return – MLB News
Derek Jeter showed the signs of recovery as he started throwing on Tuesday. The 36-year-old New York Yankees stalwart became a victim of the disabled list on June 12 in the game against the Cleveland Indians.
The game resulted in a 1-0 loss could not see Jeter’s career 3,000 hits as he had started the game with 2,994 hits. If he hit 3,000 hits on the same day, Jeter would become Major League Baseball’s 28th player having achieved the benchmark.
The Yankees captain had to be relieved owing to his strained right calf. Limping off from the field due to the injury, the sight was not only unbearable for him but also for an anticipating and cheering crowd.
"I guess the timing wasn't very good," Jeter said on June 14, one day after suffering the injury. "It's a little bit frustrating, but even if I wasn't at this point, I'd still be frustrated.”
For the star player it is not always about making significant achievements. "I don't like not to play, whether it's going for 3,000 hits or 100 hits. It really doesn't make a difference to me. I'd rather be out there playing."
However, for the team manager who was visibly satisfied, there are chances he comes back soon. “He's going in the right direction," Yankees’ manager Joe Girardi said Tuesday after the game against Cincinnati at the Great American Ball Park was postponed
due to rain.
The team management is not showing much of a rush here because any risk involving another injury worries the team as a whole. It is this reason that Jeter has not shown any haste himself and the team as a whole.
Jeter will be officially eligible to clear the disabled list on June 29 when the New York Yankees will face the Milwaukee Brewers, following which the New York Mets and Cleveland Indians series will be played.
Brett Gardner and Nick Swisher have replaced the injured player in his absence at the leadoff spot. Although Jeter has been remarkably good himself, the duo substituting him have not been less productive either.
Standing third in the ranking with 42 wins and 29 losses, the Yankees have the right set of players to make every sail smooth enough for a victory. The Yankees will certainly feel stronger with the return of Derek Jeter.
Jeter is also looking forward to returning soon considering the big teams his side is going to face in the days to come. It’s the prospect of his returning soon that not only motivates him but also the fans wishing to see him back in the side.
