New York Yankees’ Derek Jeter on the road to recovery – MLB News
According to nypost.com, New York Yankees’ captain Derek Jeter is on the road to recovery. Jeter picked up severe ankle injury in 2012 American League Championship Series against the Detroit Tigers. Without their Captain, the Yankees went on to lose the ALCS.
In an interview while attending annual Turn 2 Foundation Express, Jeter stated that it was tough for him to go out with injury after leading the Yankees in to the post season.
However, most importantly, he told his fans that his injury his healing as expected and he will be playing for the Yankee son the opening day. In some ways, it has been a strange kind of season for the Yankees.
Not too many players have shown interest in staying with the Yankees, which is of course very unusual. Furthermore, the Yankees have also gone about their business like a small market club.
“It was a tough five or six weeks, pretty much sitting on the couch with your foot elevated, but now I feel as though I am moving around pretty good," he said.
Alex Rodriguez has also been placed on Disabled List after he suffered injury in left hip. He is expected to undergo a surgery in January and may not be able to return until July 2013. However, Jeter believes that his team is capable of winning the World Series title even without A-Rod.
“I don’t know what to make of it," he said. “It’s the Yankees. Just when you expect us not to do something, something happens, that pretty much has been the norm the 17 years that I’ve been here. So I don’t know what’s going to happen. I don’t pay attention to payroll, tax benefits; it’s too much for me. I wouldn’t be surprised by anything that happens, but the offseason is not over."
Yankees reluctance to spend cash has gone to the point where players have lost their interest in becoming a part of the club. Jeff Keppinger, who was expected to be signed by the Yankees as a third baseman, agreed to a deal with the Chicago White Sox. It will be interesting to see if Jeter can return on time to help the Yankees live up to the expectations.
