New York Yankees’ Derek Jeter shows quick recovery in Monday rehab – MLB News
The New York Yankees’ unsurpassed short-stop Derek Jeter is likely to return to action on Monday, July 4 against the Cleveland Indians in the first game of the three-game interleague series, however it still requires an official announcement, as reported
by sources.
The player, who celebrated his 37th birthday on Sunday, June 26, did some batting workout and stretched his legs for the first time on Monday afternoon in Tampa, Florida. The right-hand hitter made some strong hits on the field before heavy rain
restrained him from making further practice at the Yankees’ complex.
To make his comeback a perfect one, Jeter practiced on three different perspectives to examine his rehab on his own. He swung at least 30 hits in batting practice, grabbed a number of grounders at infield position and stretched his legs to full strength
including little dashes. After he acquired his momentum, rain forced him to rest, which proved helpful for his relaxation.
Looking at the devotion Jeter exhibited in the rehab process, the Yankees’ General Manager Brian Cashman explained the whole day as “a great one” and he believes with such motivation Jeter might get off the Disabled list before the usual time. Jeter was
placed on the 15-day disabled list due to a strained right calf prior to the Yankees’ outing against the Texas Rangers on June 14.
Though Cashman showed optimistic approach while about Jeter’s comeback, still he avoided to confirm whether Jeter would be ready to play against the Brewers or not. However, Cashman gives a hint how important his presence is for the Yankees.
"No, he hasn't done anything yet other than Sunday and Monday," Cashman said. "It's going to take as long as it takes. We just don't want it to take any longer than it needs to take."
Jeter is moving towards his 3000th career hit and according to experts if he made his rehabilitation earlier than usual only then he would be able to carry his hitting stint against the relatively weak pitching depth of the Milwaukee Brewers.
Otherwise, in case he takes more than 10 days he then probably would continue his quest in the series against the Cleveland Indians starting from July 4, or against the Tampa Bay Rays on July 7.
