New York Yankees’ Derek Jeter travelling to Charlotte to see ankle specialist – MLB Update
Even though the fate of New York Yankees’ Captain Derek Jeter was known by the time the sun rose on Sunday, he still decided to undergo the full battery of tests to be sure.
Just an hour after Game 2 started at Yankee Stadium in New York, Yankees announced that Jeter suffered a fractured left ankle in the 12th inning in their painful 4-6 loss to the Detroit Tigers in Game 1 of American League Championship Series.
Jeter is expected to miss the rest of the post-season to recover from the injury.
Battling through the post-season without their captain, the Yankees find themselves in a very rough position. Overcoming the mighty Tigers will be even tougher than before.
According to a leading sports website, Jeter will be travelling to Charlotte, North Carolina, later this week to see a foot and ankle specialist – Robert Anderson. The source further revealed that Jeter will follow the course of action for recovery as advised
by the doctor.
The shortstop is currently using a splint and a pair of crutches after getting a CT scan and an MRI on his ankle Sunday afternoon. A Yankees’ spokesperson further added that Jeter will not be travelling to Detroit for the middle games of the American League
Championship Series against the Detroit.
“Again, it’s horrible to watch because you’re so accustomed to him being out there and he’s not going to be out there,” said former team-mate and YES Network analyst Paul O’Neill. “But guys have an opportunity today to go out and realize that you’re in a
championship series. You’re trying to get to the World Series — whether Derek Jeter is at shortstop today or not.”
When the Yankees spoke to the doctor originally, they were told it was a probably a three month issue. Physician Anderson has also performed the surgery on Giants’ wide receiver Hakeem Nicks’ broken foot earlier this year and surely, he will look after the
38-year-old shortstop in every possible way.
Still not having Jeter for Sunday’s Game 2 at Yankees Stadium was a forgettable site for many. It will be interesting to see if the Yankees can cope with the pressure without their Captain to reach World Series finals.
