New York Yankees’ Derek Jeter will miss Monday's game against Chicago White Sox – MLB News
Derek Jeter’s injury has become a complex mystery for him and team as a whole to resolve. Having recently achieved the milestone of 3,000th hit, Jeter has been as much in the news due to his injury.
The three-game series to be kicked off on Monday will not see Jeter being starred as he is struggling to hold the bat appropriately as he still has the injury on his right middle finger.
The Yankees’ captain and short-stop is obviously not very pleased with the outcome, but given the team manager’s unwillingness to allow him to play due to the fear of falling into the disabled list, it seems rest remains the only option for the player.
Jeter was himself candid enough to acknowledge that he was not able to grip the bat well. "I was having trouble gripping - so in effect throwing and swinging," Jeter said. "That's a problem when you try to play baseball."
Derek’s admission, however, came when the team manager made it known that he might not allow Jeter to play partly because of his injury, is getting exacerbated. “Jeter usually tries to play through pain, but he fessed up to Joe Girardi that there was a problem.”
When he was pressed to talk more about the injury and the prospect of Jeter playing the game, going to start on Monday against the Chicago White Sox, he said he wanted to give Jeter some rest prior to giving a chance to play with uninterrupted regularity.
“He told me he felt better today, which I thought was good, but if I'm going to give him a day on this trip somewhere, today is probably the day to do it just because he was sore," Girardi said. "We had to bring him out of the game, so it just gives him
a chance to heal."
Jeter has recently been in the news due to both his landmark achievement of getting 3,000 hits and the injuries that followed him. Striking a balance between the two is what the Yankees’ captain wants to do.
Yankees remain behind the Boston Red Sox as the latter hold the second position in the MLB ranking with 66 wins, while the New York Yankees have 65 wins to their record, struggling to somehow cross the Red Sox.
For that to happen, the Yankees will definitely need the help of their stalwarts, chief among them is Derek Jeter. It will become clear by Monday whether or not Jeter is fit enough to descend on the ballpark.
