New York Yankees: Hal Steinbrenner talks about Brian Cashman
Things were looking grim for the New York Yankees when news came forth that the co-owners and the General Manager Brian Cashman crossed paths on signing Rafael Soriano.
However, after a week, team owner Hal Steinbrenner has squashed the rumours of a rift. The fans have been speculating greatly, following a dismal winter break period. Nonetheless, all unofficial news came to a halt when Hal went on to talk about Cashman
with the media.
Steinbrenner went on to commend the dedication put forward by Cashman. He complimented his value to the club and talked immensely about his tenure being extended beyond the existing contract period. He clearly said that he and Cashman have a great working
relationship and that the recent saga was a stimulated drama that carried no secret agenda.
The rumours started in the deal saga that involved Derek Jeter. Many news media outlets went out to speculate that Cashman was not adhering to the way things were going around in the Yankees’ boardroom. The pinnacle of the news jumped when Brian went on
to declare that the owners overruled his decision on signing Soriano for 3 years, on a $35 million contract. The comments at the time were open for interpretation.
"This certainly will help us try to win a championship, there's no doubt about that, so that's in the plus column," Cashman said. "But I didn't recommend it, just because I didn't think it was an efficient way to allocate the remaining resources we have.
We had a lot of debate about that."
Whatever the case may be, things remain the same. The owners and Cashman are looking for a solution, and it’s a pleasant to see the two management kings getting back to work again.
"I value his opinion and his advice," Steinbrenner said. "That does not mean I am always going to go with that advice and all of my VPs know that I might go a different way. There are no hard feelings between Cash and I. There never was. Reasonable men can
differ in opinions."
There is a need for a pitcher at the club, at the moment. Cashman has limited options to court in the market and with almost 15 days left in the offseason, hard decisions need to come quickly.
