New York Yankees’ Jorge Posada disappointed over Joe Girardi's announcement – MLB News
The 39-year-old New York Yankees designated hitter Jorge Posada was disappointed on Sunday, August 7 when he was informed by Joe Girardi that he was not playing the game at Fenway Park against the Boston Red Sox.
The decision came on Sunday was something that the aging and experienced Yankees designated hitter was not probably anticipating.
He did not mince his words when asked how he felt after this decision. "I'm not happy, and I said it on Sunday," Posada said. "I don't need to tell you again that I'm not happy again today. I'm moving on, and I'll be ready whenever I have to play. That's
it."
While there was a tinge of anger that he made known, it was quite evident that a sense of helplessness had already descended upon him. "I can't do anything about it; I really can't," Posada said. "You just go out there and play whenever they give me a chance."
But on the other hand, the team manager has had his own reasons to keep the designated hitter Posada away from the game. As it was viewed, the fact that the player had not performed with the consistency he is known for has contributed to the decision.
But the team manager still says he wants to give Posada a chance in the days to come. Nonetheless, the Yankees maverick has to wait for an opportune moment to be inducted in the line-up to demonstrate his high-quality game.
"Right now, we're going to maybe move the DH around a little bit in this long stretch," Girardi said. "I can't tell you exactly where I'm going to use Jorge. The important thing is that he's prepared to play every day. I'll give him a heads up.
It is worth remembering here that Posada was once sidelined in the start of the season this year. But he staged a phenomenal comeback and went ahead with a characteristically aggressive innings to prove his instrumentality, maintaining a .326 batting average.
Having played 90 games this season, Posada has remained 282 at-bats and has scored 24 runs with 65 hits to his credit with 9 home-runs. His average has, however, deteriorated with .230 and .372 SLG.
While this time he seems to have been rested for long, for him to return – provided he is given another chance, it will be indeed very interesting to see how he goes ahead with the same performance that he previously showed in May once he was out of the
season. Only time will tell if Posada can manage to find a way back into the main line-up and be a part of the Yankees possible postseason session.
