New York Yankees: Looking to dominate in 2013 Major League Baseball season – MLB Feature
The New York Yankees had a very good 2012 Major League Baseball season. The managed to make it to the postseason with an excellent 95-67 win-loss record as they finished first in the American League East Division.
Dealing with powerhouse teams like the Tampa Bay Rays, Boston Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles in the AL East Division was no easy feat for the Yankees. The team managed to put on their usual flair during the regular season and win games.
Most baseball experts never rule the Yankees out from any postseason chances as they always manage to pick their game up a notch in the tail end of the regular season.
The 2012 MLB regular season was no different as the Yankees kept winning in style. Their powerful rotation and talented line-up kept most of the teams at bay as the Yankees showed their true class throughout the regular season.
The Yankees are loaded with star players. Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, Curtis Granderson, Raul Ibanez, CC Sabathia and others proved why they are the best in the business. Ichiro Suzuki came to the Yankees in July from the Seattle Mariners to add to their
already talented line-up. The Yankees cruised into the playoffs and it seemed as if it was business as usual for the star baseball club.
New York Yankees faced the resurgent Baltimore Orioles in the American League Division Series (ALDS). The Orioles were looking for a fight and that is exactly what they got as the Yankees went head-to-head in this exciting Division Series. Both teams lifted
their game-play and battled it out for a chance to make it to the American League Championship Series (ALCS). After a close series, the Yankees managed to take the series 3-2 over the Orioles.
In the ALCS the New York Yankees took on the mighty Detroit Tigers. This series promised to be a treat for the fans, however after the Yankees lost Game 1 of the ALCS to the Tigers 4-6, something unimaginable happened. Their captain Derek Jeter suffered
a fractured ankle while making a play and was out for the rest of the playoffs. For the Yankees’ fans this was a nightmare. Jeter is known as the ‘go-to guy’ during the playoffs as he has managed to dig the Yankees out of some tight situations in the past.
This time it was not meant to be as the Detroit Tigers shut-out the Yankees 4-0 to take the ALCS and move to the World Series against the San Francisco Giants. It was a disappointing end to a solid season for the Yankees.
As the Yankees now prepare for the 2013 MLB season, they will be hoping that players Jeter and Rodriguez are fit and ready to play. As some of their star players are now starting to show some age, the fans will be looking to the team to dominate for another
season and make it to the playoffs.
Like most teams in the Major League, I never underestimate the power and finesse of the New York Yankees. The team has the ability to turn it on at anytime and easily make it to the postseason. If the Yankees are healthy next season there is no doubt that
they will dominate the regular season and quite possibly make it to the World Series.
