New York Yankees’ Mariano Rivera all set for amazing record of 600 saves – MLB News
The New York Yankees’ relief pitcher Mariano Rivera is all set for a distinguished record previously unheard of in baseball’s history. Very quietly, but with amazing sensation, will the all-star relief pitcher journey into the territory not traversed before,
as he is approaching 600 saves. He will be the first relief pitcher to have achieved this record.
However, much as the record is of great magnitude and holds wonderful significance, there is apparently little attention paid to it. Rivera was the second player to make 500 saves after it was done by none other than Trevor Hoffman who represented Florida
Marlins, San Diego Padres and Milwaukee Brewers.
With Derek Jeter recently becoming only the 28th player to have the accomplishment of 3,000
hits, Mariano Rivera of the New York Yankees will be the second Yankees’ asset to be doing something extraordinarily different not only for himself but also for the team.
However, Mariano Rivera’s journey has received a limelight that leaves much to be desired. Having joined the New York Yankees in 1995 and quickly making his way into the bullpen, Mariano Rivera stunned the baseball world when he became only the second player
to have made 500 saves.
“I think there should be a lot more attention given to what Mariano is doing,” said Jason Isringhausen, a 39-year-old reliever for the Mets, who is third on the active list with 300 saves. “There’s going to be only two guys with 600 saves, and after Rivera,
there won’t be anyone more. It will never happen again.”
As he has attained professional maturity, in fact standing at the highest peak of it, there have rarely been moments when the hitters have faced with the degree of confidence necessary to play. Having spent his entire career with the Yankees, his team-mates
are aware of how crucial he has remained to further embolden an already unbeatable team.
“Even now, hitters hate facing him,” Hunter said. “When you have a pitcher and hitters talk about him like he’s a ghost or a monster that they are afraid to see, that’s impressive.”
Famously known for his cut fastballs, Rivera’s presence on the mound has always inspired comprehensible unease for the hitters. That is what he stands distinguished for. Therefore, a player who is responsible for over 599 saves deserves accolades of the
highest degree once he achieves the unheard of record of 600 saves.
Rivera’s achievements and the impact they have had on the Yankees cannot be undone. The fact that his amazing record of 600 saves is not emphasised shows the strength and depth of the Yankees team and all their brilliant players and accolades.
