New York Yankees Mark Teixeira to miss 8-10 weeks – MLB Update
Recent right wrist injury has caused New York Yankees talented first baseman Mark Teixeira big time. Team doctors are saying he will miss at-least 8-10 weeks before getting fully recovered.
Teixeira has already been dropped from USA’s baseball squad who are roaring to play their first game on Friday in 2013 World Baseball Classic. Eric Hosmer of Kansas City Royals is coming to fill the place.
"I asked him [if there was any prior indication that something was wrong], He said nothing, that he had never had this before. He was just shaking his head," Team USA manager Joe Torre said.
“This ain't good, It's not the time of year to make (major) moves, unless people are trying to cut garbage," Yankees GM Brian Cashman said, noting that Teixeira's injury may force the club to seek help beyond its current roster.
Yankees manager Joe Girardi said for his player and told the reporters with quite detail, "It's a big loss, It's not what you want. But it's what you've got to deal with. It's life. Winning is never easy. You find out what your team is made of."
It is a big blow for team USA that Teixeira will not play in this year’s World Baseball Classic. He is a very good player and currently considered one of the best at first base position.
His last year’s stats show a consistent progress at the plate where he achieved .251 hitting average along with 24 home runs, 84 RBIs and .332 OBP. His overall career hitting average is also very good at .279 along with 338 home runs, 1101 RBIs and .369 OBP.
His replacement Eric Hosmer is also an experienced individual and rightly deserved the place. His last year’s potential stats impressed many in the big league.
He showed great commitment in the field and batted very well with a hitting average of .232 along with 14 homers, 60 RBIs and .304 OBP.
Along with good last season’s numbers, Eric Hosmer also carries a good career batting record of .262 along with 33 home runs, 138 RBIs and .319 OBP.
