New York Yankees: Regular season Results – MLB May 2011
After giving some incredible performances in the month of April, the Yankees were hoping for another strong period of thirty days to move up the standings. In their first series in May against Detroit Tigers, the Yankees fell short of expectations by quite
a large distance, losing three of the four games played.
Although Joe Girardi’s side managed to deliver goods in the first game of the series with a 5-3 win, they were absolutely made to run for their money in following three games, concluding a disastrous series result for them. Considering the high standards
the Yankees had set themselves earlier in the regular season, it was a humiliating defeat for Joe Girardi and his men.
"Hopefully it gives us some more confidence playing a team like the Yankees and beating them three out of four.” Tigers' Manager said after the game.
Looking to get back on track, the Yankees prepared well for their next series against the red hot Texas Rangers. It was a test of patience, temperament and skills for the Yankees, who were previously outclassed by Tigers in all departments of the game. Making
a dream start to the series, the Yankees were absolutely unstoppable in game one, thrashing the Rangers 4-1.
Curtis Granderson homered twice for the Yankees in a memorable 4-1 victory. "Curtis was outstanding with the two home runs and giving us a lead. That's always good for a young pitcher," manager Joe Girardi said. "I expected him to be productive and hit the
ball really hard, but 10 home runs?"
The New Yorkers made few costly unforced errors in the following game to let the opposition find a way back into the contest with a superb 7-5 victory as the series levelled at 1-all.
The Yankees, however, raised the level of their game play in a thrilling decider, cruising to a 12-5 victory to conclude an astonishing series result for them. It will not be wrong to say that everybody played his part with great responsibility to overcome
the baseball giants.
Making a decent start to a three match contest against Kansas City, the Yankees looked in control of their game-play as they took a 1-0 lead in the series. However, they experienced a huge dip in their form, losing six straight games, which damaged their
win-loss record to only 20-19. With all the controversy going around, the Yankees were able to finish the month strongly as they won the series’ against the Toronto Blue Jays, New York Mets, Baltimore Orioles and Oakland Athletics.
The Yankees struggled in the beginning of the month, but they managed to claw their way back and win some important series.
