New York Yankees: Regular season results – MLB August 2011
After giving some impressive results in the month of July, the Yankees were hoping for consistency to stay at top of the standings. Joe Girardi was delighted with the progress his men were able to make during the regular season and he aimed to give similar
results in the upcoming games as well.
In their first series of the month, the Yankees raised their game-play to an entirely new level, hammering the Chicago White Sox in each game to secure an impressive 4-0 series victory. It will not be wrong to say that all the players showed amazing determination
and mental abilities throughout the contest to seal a memorable victory.
Derek Jeter and Curtis Granderson had a superb time with the bat in game three as they powered their team to a crushing 18-7 victory.
"Guys are having good at-bats, hitting balls hard, finding holes," Derek Jeter said. "It's not too often during a course of a season where it seems like everyone is swinging the bat well at the same time, but it's been the case for us the last few days."
In their previous series against Boston Red Sox, the Yankees were outplayed in almost all departments of the game. Looking to restore some of their lost pride, Joe Girardi and his men made a confident start to a three match series against Boston Red Sox,
clinching the opening encounter 3-2. However, they were unable to deliver the goods in the following two games as they let their arch rivals take a comfortable 2-1 series win.
"I don't call it disappointing or frustrating. We lost the series. That's baseball," Joe Girardi said. "We've been playing great."
After losing the first game of a three match series against Los Angeles Angels, the Yankees were back to their very best in games two and three as they secured a much needed series win. Managing a draw in their next series against Tampa Bay Rays, the Yankees
managed to come back from a 1-0 deficit in a rain shortened series.
It seemed as everybody in the Yankees’ side were enjoying their roles as the team worked together in difficult situations. Thrashing Kansas City Royals 2-1 in the following series, the Yankees improved their win-loss record to 74-47 to become the leading
AL East team. Although they lost three out of their next seven games against Oakland Athletics and Baltimore Orioles, the Yankees finished the month strongly. They earned a well deserved series victory over the Boston Red Sox, especially considering the way
they were outplayed in the previous clashes against the same team.
The Yankees managed to come together as a team during the month. The team gained some momentum at a crucial time in the season.
