New York Yankees: Regular season results – MLB July 2011
After ending the month of June on a high note, the New York Yankees were looking to strengthen their position in the standings with another strong 30-day period. In July 2011, the Yankees gave many noticeable performances, which improved their chances to
qualify for the World Series quite significantly. After completing an impressive 3-0 series victory over Milwaukee Brewers, the Yankees turned their attention towards their next series against the New York Mets.
Thrashing their opponents in the opening two games with ease, Joe Girardi and his men seemed to be in their comfort zone. Adopting a very aggressive approach throughout the series, they did not let the Mets breathe as they secured their first series victory
of the month. Eduardo Nunez looked on a roll in game two as he homered to give his side complete control of the match.
Manager, Joe Girardi was absolutely delighted with the results his team had managed to achieve. When asked to choose between Nunez and Derek he made the following comment.
"Nuni has played well, but Derek's our shortstop. I mean, he's been the shortstop for a long, long time and has been a great player and he's still a great player," Girardi said. "We're looking forward to getting him back. My hope is these next two days go
well and we get him back and get him rolling like he can."
The Yankees, however, failed to continue their winning momentum in their next series against the Cleveland Indians, losing two out of three games. The American League East leading team made a good come back in game two to level the series at 1-all. But loss
of concentration resulted in a disaster for them in the deciding game.
After losing the opening game of a three match series against the Tampa Bay Rays, the Yankees managed to get things back on a track with a sensational performance in the second game. Clinching a narrow 1-0 victory in the final game, the Yankees secured their
second series victory of the month in the rain affected series.
New York Yankees had a very evenly contested series against the Toronto Blue Jays as they managed to draw the four game series with victories in the last two games. Defeating Oakland Athletics and Tampa Bay Rays in their following fixtures, they were back
to their very best. Yankees ended the month in fine fashion as they outshined the Seattle Mariners and Baltimore Orioles to improve their win-loss record to 64-42.
The Yankees managed to come together as a team with both offence and defence working together to achieve some impressive wins during the month of July.
