New York Yankees: Regular season results – MLB June 2011
Ending the previous month with an impressive 30-23 win-loss record, New York Yankees were hoping to achieve even better results in June 2011 to top the standings. Hammering Oakland Athletics 3-0, the Yankees seemed to be in commanding form as they bagged
their first series victory of the month.
"Any time you win 10 in a row against a club, it just doesn't happen very often," Yankees’ manager Joe Girardi said. "They have talent over there. They have a very good pitching staff. We just kind of had our way. We were fortunate."
Although Joe Girardi’s side had a very shaky start to their next series against Los Angeles Angels, they were back to their best in games two and three to earn a well deserved series win. Angels clinched a thrilling opening encounter with a 3-2 scoreline
after some serious unforced errors were made by Joe Girardi and his men. However, the Yankees looked in complete control to win the following two games. Mark Teixeira homered twice in the decider to beat his former team, Los Angeles Angels.
Despite having momentum on their side, the Yankees were unable to deliver the goods in a three match series with Boston Red Sox. New Yorkers were crushed in each game against their arch rivals to conclude a disastrous series result for them. Boston clinched
the opening game 6-4 with a narrow margin. However, they dominated the next two games with some high quality baseball as Yankees fell short by a large distance.
Team Manager, Joe Girardi was very disappointed with the way things were going for him and his team during the series. However, he accepted the results graciously and aimed to come back stronger in their next series against the Cleveland Indians.
"It's not how you wanted it to end tonight, it did and you've got to move on," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said.
In a four game series against the Cleveland Indians, the Yankees outplayed their opponents in almost all departments of the game, winning three out of four matches. Leading the series 2-0, the Yankees were absolutely unstoppable in game three as they hammered
the Indians 9-1 to complete an impressive series win. However, in final game, the Yankees lost their concentration a bit to let their opponents take a consolatory win.
The Yankees continued their excellent form in series against Texas Rangers and Chicago Cubs as well as they won five out of six games against the inform teams. Ending the month on a high note, they thrashed the Milwaukee Brewers 3-0, which improved their
win-loss record to 48-31. The Yankees were building momentum and more importantly confidence, as they had a decent month of June.
