New York Yankees’ Robinson Cano attends celebrity golf tournament – MLB News

Boston Red Sox’s hitter David Ortiz has been organising a celebrity golf tournament for the last five years. Although most Major League Baseball players find it hard to attend for various reasons, Robinson Cano, who is currently the best bat in New York
Yankees’ lineup, ensures he comes to support Ortiz every year.
Cano sees Ortiz as his older brother and even though he does not play golf, he does not mind forgetting Red Sox- Yankees rivalry to spend some quality time with his old friend. The golf tournament intends to collect charity for the poor and needy people.
Young relievers Mark Melancon and Clayton Mortensen also attended the social gathering this year.
Kevin Youkilis, who displayed some top quality hitting skills for the Chicago White Sox last season, has been weighing offers from the New York Yankees and the Cleveland Indians. Yankees’ one year $12 million offer is of course batter than White Sox’s two
year $18 million proposal.
Of course, with the Indians Youkilis will not have to worry about becoming a free agent at the end of the season but he is likely to have a better chance of making it through to the post season if he comes to New York. W
ith Alex Rodriguez expected to miss half the season, Youkilis could play third base for the Yankees. Cano is hoping that Youkilis will make the right decision by accepting Yankees’ offer.
“Everything stays on the field,” said Cano. “I’ve gotten a chance to talk to him and he’s a nice guy. I’ve had a chance to meet him at the All-Star Game, and he always seemed cool in talking with everybody. There’s some guys that, the way they play the game,
you say this guy is not a nice person, but he’s a great person.”
“I was surprised because he ended up the season good,” said Cano. “He ended up playing. It was nothing you expect, for him to get hurt and get another hip surgery. Hopefully everything will go right.”
Cano, who plays the game as hard as anyone else, admitted that he has not enmity for any of the Red Sox’s players. He added that the rivalry exists more in the hearts of fans than on the field.
