New York Yankees annual meeting held at Tampa, Florida on Wednesday – MLB News
The New York Yankees annual organisational meeting held at Tampa, Florida on Wednesday and major issues including the up-coming deal deadlines, scouts and strategy for 2012 season was discussed.
The entire front office was present in the meeting to solve, resolve, adjust and strategise the decisions. Managing general partner Hal Steinbrenner, general manager Brian Cashman, assistant GM Jean Afterman, team president Randy Levine, senior vice president
of baseball operations Mark Newman, super scout Gene Michael and pro personnel director Billy Eppler among others were present in the meeting.
The participants of the meeting also considered the issue of Brian Cashman’s expiring contract, about which the team executive announced that had been finalised. The team officials confirmed that the deal with Cashman will be finalised by Halloween.
"It will be done by Oct. 31." Team officials declared.
The Yankees has shown their interest to hold on to the right-fielder Nick Swisher for next season. Swisher, who was one of the vital players in the middle rotation, hammered 23 homers and earned 85 RBIs with a batting average of .260, which helped the Yankees
to reach the decision.
"No decision on Swisher has been made yet,'' the source said.
Among the issues was the CC Sabathia’s opt-out option, which he might use by the end of this month. Sabathia has given clear indication of using his opt-out clause of his contract by the next week and the Yankees officials also tried to find out any solution
for the problem.
In a six and half-hour long meeting, in which the upcoming free agency season was also discussed. Executives also discussed the availability of the high-profile pitchers like Roy Oswalt, who was the part of the Philadelphia Phillies in 2011 season and is
expected to become a free agent and the Texas Rangers’ C.J. Wilson.
"I can't discuss any specific free agents,'' said the executive, "but believe me, every issue on our agenda was discussed and every available player was evaluated. It was all very positive.''
After the meeting, Brian Cashman, Eppler and Levine boarded their flights to head back to New York. According to the team officials, further meetings have not been planned since now.
