New York Yankees batter Tampa Bay Rays 5-3 – MLB Recap
The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 5-3 in the second game of their three-match regular series encounter on Saturday, September 15 at Yankee Stadium in New York City.
Yankees played together as a team to battle it out against the Rays to earn a great victory in the end.
"Even though he hadn't pitched a lot, you could see where his endurance level was, where his velocity was, the deception on his pitches, He did an excellent job for us," Granderson said.
Later, Yankees' manager Joe Girardi said, “We've seen him do it before. We really didn't expect to get him into the seventh, I was extremely impressed with his stuff today his command and what he did out there."
Yankees' pitchers showed their true offensive class as they rattled the Rays with tremendous game-play.
Starter Ivan Nova pitched six innings and allowed just two runs and four hits. He retired eight batters and received one homer on his 4.85 ERA.
Relief pitcher Boone Logan pitched 0.1 innings and allowed one run and smashed for one hit. He pitched well and maintained his ERA at 4.01.
Along with pitchers, the Yankees' batters also played well and provided a good platform.
Left fielder Ichiro Suzuki scored one run and smashed one hit on his four at-bats. He did really well on the plate and proved one of the winning factors for the Yankees.
Second baseman Robinson Cano came out four times to bat and scored one run and smashed two hits on his consistent .539 slugging percentage.
On the other hand, the Rays played defensively and lost the game in the end. Their hitters and pitchers were certainly outplayed by the Yankees' entire roster.
"I was just hoping that coming off of whatever was bothering him, it would continue to be a problem, it was not, He likes our uniform, I know that. He's very comfortable when he sees our uniform," Rays' manager Joe Maddon said.
Rays’ pitchers, especially starter James Shields allowed too many loop-holes in his 6.1 innings spell. He received four runs and six hits as he retired four batters and gave up two homers as well.
