New York Yankees beat Baltimore Orioles 3-1 in Game 5 of ALDS – MLB Update
New York Yankees held their nerves under pressure as they edged past the Baltimore Orioles 3-1 at Yankee Stadium in New York, NY on Friday, October 12 in the finale of their five match American League Division Series.
Both teams displayed some top quality fight skills in a crucial ALDS game. Yankees executed their game plan to perfection as they reached American League Championship Series for the second straight season.
Starting pitcher C.C. Sabathia showed the kind of stuff he is capable of as he gave up just four hits and one run in a complete game. Striking-out nine batters, he made quick work of Orioles’ batting line-up on Friday evening.
"It is still a long way to go," Sabathia said. "I still got hopefully three or four more starts. So the job is not done yet."
"He's our go-to guy," Derek Jeter said. "He's been our go-to guy since he's been here."
It was Sabathia’s second win of the post-season. His ERA so far during the playoffs is an impressive 1.53. It will be interesting to see if he can extend his terrific winning streak to help New York reach the World Series finals.
Raul Ibanez had another great outing as he singled to centre in the fifth inning to break the deadlock and put Yankees on the board. Ichiro Suzuki also played a big part in deciding the outcome of the clash as he added a double to deep right centre in the
sixth inning to double Yankees’ lead 2-0.
"It started off fair and it was just hooking a little bit. I thought it was foul just in game speed," McLouth said. "A couple of people mentioned it might've ticked the pole, but he was way closer than I was and I was satisfied after they went down and looked
at the replay that it was foul."
Curtis Granderson smacked a solo home-run to right in the seventh to give New York complete control of the situation. For the Orioles, designated hitter Lew Ford singled to left to score the only run of the game but his effort did not prove to be enough.
