New York Yankees beat Cleveland Indians 11-6 – MLB News
New York Yankees secured a comfortable 11-6 win against the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio on Monday, April 8 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular season.
Yankee dominated their American League rivals right from the start of the contest. Credit should be given to both the batting line-up and pitching rotation for executing the game plan to perfection. After taking series loss against the Detroit Tigers, Manager
Joe Girardi was expecting his men to learn from their mistakes to bring some consistency in their results and that is exactly what the Yankees did in an important game against the Indians.
"If you're playing for the Yankees and do well, you're going to get booed," Kuroda said.
"It was really special," designated hitter Travis Hafner said. "It's something I'll never forget. There's so many people here I know. It's a little strange seeing people with Hafner Indians jerseys. It was strange coming to the visiting clubhouse and visiting
dugout. It was a little weird, but overall it was great being back here."
"They're passionate fans here," Hafner said. "I knew with me playing for the Yankees the cheers wouldn't last too long."
Cleveland, on the other hand, will be extremely disappointed with the outcome of the game. Despite having the home conditions working in their favour the Indians were unable to come up with the winning formula. Indians posted unforgettable numbers last season
and surely they will be looking to win back their fans’ hearts in 2013. It will be interesting to see if they can bounce back from this humiliating defeat in Game 2 to keep the series alive.
Yankees starting pitcher Hiroki Kuroda had an excellent time on the mound. The Japanese right hander used his fastballs and sliders to perfection to create all sorts of problems for the Indians’ batting line-up. Overall Kuroda gave up just five hits and
three run in hitting friendly conditions to grab his first win of the season. Joba Chamberlain pitched the perfect ninth for his first save of the season. New York Yankees dominated the Cleveland Indians and are looking very strong in the beginning of the
regular season.
