New York Yankees beat Miami Marlins 10-8 – MLB Spring Training
New York Yankees dominated Miami Marlins 10-8 at the Marlins Park in Miami, Florida on Sunday, April 1
in their Grapefruit League clash of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Session.
Yankees’ ace C.C. Sabathia had a great time on the mound. In a post game interview, Sabathia stated that he is ready for the upcoming regular season. Allowing just four hits and three runs over four innings pitched, he held the Marlins to eight runs in a
fairly low scoring game.
"I think if they left CC out there a little longer I don't think we would have scored eight runs," Morrison said. "He's pretty good."
Derek Jeter and Nick Swisher made useful contributions with the bat, having two hits each. Robinson Cano also joined the party by driving in two runs as the Yankees crushed the Marlins 10-8.
"He didn't feel great today," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "He's physically a little bit under the weather. I think it'll be there when the bell rings. I really do."
"Always the biggest issue for me is my fastball command," Sabathia said. "It wasn't there today, but there's no reason for me to feel like it won't be there Friday."
Closer, Mariano Rivera allowed his first spring training earned run since 2009. Marlins’ starter Ricky Nolasco gave up seven earned runs on eight hits in his five innings. He will be looking to bounce back strongly on his next MLB appearance.
"One bad inning," Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen said. "But besides that, pretty good."
The Yankees will be very pleased to improve their spring win-loss record to 16-11. After struggling early on, the Yankees are finally making inroads. It will be interesting to see if the Yankees can continue their supreme form throughout the regular season
to make it to the World Series finals.
In some ways, Yankees’ win over the Marlins will be of great importance. With the regular season starting in a few days, the Yankees will now have winning momentum on their side. Yankees’ Manager Joe Girardi and General Manager Brian Cashman would certainly
like to see similar performances on regular basis to make their dreams come true.
