New York Yankees beat Minnesota Twins 9-5 – MLB news
New York Yankees posted another great performance as they crushed the Minnesota Twins 9-5 at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Tuesday, July 4 in the finale of their four match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular season.
Yankees secured a narrow 3-2 win in the previous game and they continued the good work on Thursday to take an impassable 2-0 series lead. A lot of credit should be given to the Yankees pitching rotation for executing their game plan to perfection in hitting
friendly conditions. Right now, the Yankees are placed fourth on the American League East Division standings table with a decent 46-39 record. It will be interesting to see if they can bring some consistency in their results to have any chance of replacing
the inform Boston Red Sox at the top of the league standings.
“They've always had great players over there since I became manager here,” the Twins' Ron Gardenhire said. “Great players do good things.”
Yankees starting pitcher David Phelps had a great time on the mound as he allowed just eight hits and four runs in six plus solid innings to claim his sixth win of the year. The running season has turned out to be a very mediocre one for Hughes who has been
beaten five times already. It will be exciting to see if he can take some confidence from his performance to turn things around in his favour.
“It's a new month, and hopefully this is a time that we're going to turn this around,” Ichiro Suzuki said through his interpreter after tallying three hits, including a two-run triple.
“It's huge. We're going home for a long stretch, and we're taking some momentum with us. It would've been real easy to take what happened in Baltimore and carry it over here,” Phelps said.
Relief pitcher and closer David Robertson was superb as usual as he held off the Twins. Relief pitchers Joba Chamberlain and Boone Logan also made useful contributions on the mound.
Ichiro Suzuki and Adrian Gonzalez, once again, provided the Yankees with a perfect start. Gonzalez and Suzuki drove in crucial runs to help their side post a decent total on the board.
