New York Yankees beaten by Baltimore Orioles 1-2 in ALDS Game 4 – MLB Update
New York Yankees were beaten by the Baltimore Orioles 1-2 at Yankee Stadium in New York, NY on Thursday, October 11 in Game 4 of their American League Division Series.
Yankees’ Manager Joe Girardi will be extremely disappointed with the outcome of the game. After securing a narrow win in Game 3, Yankees had the momentum on their side. Girardi was expecting his men to continue their good work in Game 4 to finish off the
Orioles but the offence was unable to score enough runs.
Only Robinson Cano showed some resistance as he grounded out to second in the sixth inning. However, apart from Cano, none of the hitters could live up to the expectations. Orioles’ J.J. Hardy played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash as he
hit the tie breaking single in the 13th inning to help his side force the series into the decider.
"There's really good pitching," Girardi said. "You're seeing some really good pitching in these four games."
"I don't take for granted at any time what these guys are accomplishing so far," Orioles’ manager Buck Showalter said.
Yankees’ starting pitcher Phil Hughes had a great time on the mound as he allowed just four hits and one run in six plus innings while striking-out eight batters. However, he was unable to stop Baltimore from earning a well deserved victory.
Relief pitcher David Phelps took the loss as he gave up the go ahead run to Hardy in the 13th. Boone Logan, David Robertson and Rafael Soriano all pitched with great control and accuracy but the night belonged to the Orioles.
"You know, we played an elimination game last week to start our postseason. It's like a Game 7," Orioles’ reliever Darren O'Day said. "I think we all got as much playoff experience as we need, especially considering how many times we've played them this
year. And tonight was an elimination game and tomorrow will be another one."
It will be interesting to see if the Yankees can find winning ways in the finale to reach American League Championship Series for the second straight season.
