New York Yankees beaten by Baltimore Orioles 3-6 – MLB news
Baltimore Orioles managed to shut their critics as they secured a comprehensive 6-3 win against the mighty New York Yankees at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland on Wednesday, May 22 in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major
League Baseball regular season.
With their win, the Orioles also wrapped up a much needed home series win against their American League East Division rivals. Yankees started the series on a very aggressive note, claiming a comfortable 6-4 win in the opener but the Orioles fought back superbly
to deny their opponents a rare series win at Oriole Park.
Yankees’ starting pitcher Hiroki Kuroda paid the ultimate price for his errors on the mound as he allowed eight hits and five runs in just two innings to take his third loss of the season. It will not be wrong to say that he was completely outpitched by
his counterpart from Baltimore; Jason Hammel, who gave up only two runs in six plus innings to grab his sixth win of the season.
“It will depend on how I feel tomorrow, but for me, I'm going to make that start,” Kuroda said through a translator.
Relief pitcher Adam Warren had a great time on the mound as he pitched four scoreless innings but the night belonged to the Orioles who held on to their slim lead to complete a deserving series victory.
“Anytime a division rival comes in, you want to try to win the series especially when you're at home,” Davis said. “We avoided the snowball effect to some degree and were able to get back on track.”
“I wasn't too worried about the injury beyond tonight but was worried that it might matter tonight and it did,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said in a post game interview. “I thought he had trouble pushing off it. It was unfortunate that he was hit by the
ball.”
After Orioles took the early 2-0 lead, Robinson Cano singled to deep centre in the third inning to put Yankees on the board. Curtis Granderson and third baseman David Adams hit back to back home runs but their effort proved to be insufficient for their team.
